Men’s Brazilian Waxing
There is this outdated idea that waxing is only for women. So not true. Manscaping, Manzilian, Brozilian, Boyzilian, Guyzilian. Any of these ring a bell?
Nowadays, more and more men are turning to waxing to control unwanted body hair. Thus, Men’s Brazilian Waxing is also becoming quite popular.
Smooth and stubble-free for 4 to 6 weeks? Yes, please!
Although waxing is uncomfortable at first, regular maintenance results in finer, sparser regrowth that becomes easier to remove. Going to a professional waxing therapist will ensure that you get the best possible results with minimal discomfort.
OK, But What Exactly IS a Men’s Brazilian Wax?
Male and female Brazilian Waxing procedures are very similar, except for some, well, structural differences.
Hair is removed from the groin, shaft, scrotum, buttocks, and between the butt cheeks. Some people prefer to keep a landing strip on the upper pubic area, while others go totally bare. It all comes down to personal choice.
Why Men Choose a Brazilian Wax
Men are turning to waxing for comfort, hygiene, sport, or simply personal preference for a smoother appearance.
Shaving the pubic area can lead to ingrown hairs, and it’s quite a cumbersome process to shave your delicates every few days. Dull blades are a recipe for irritated skin and ingrown hair, and they dull quickly, so you have to replace them often. Another must-have for successful shaving is shaving cream or gel, and a soothing product afterwards. You see where we’re going with this…
Waxing results last much longer. You can expect to be hair-free for anything from 2 to 4 weeks. The only additional products you’ll need are an exfoliator (body scrub) and, if you have super sensitive skin, maybe something to calm the skin for the first few days after waxing.
Hair traps sweat and odour-causing bacteria. Athletes, especially cyclists, runners, swimmers, and bodybuilders, can really benefit from waxing. Worrying less about grooming leaves more time to concentrate on training, and this has a positive impact on performance.
Speaking of performance…Let’s address the elephant in the room: sex. We know you want to know. Feeling clean and cultivated is a huge boost for self-confidence, and that is always a boon in the bedroom. The majority of men also report enhanced sensation, making for a more pleasurable experience all around. Partners generally also prefer a smooth finish, as stubble can get a bit scratchy.
Let’s Talk the Real Talk About Pain
Does it hurt? Let’s be straight – you’re not going to be licked by a baby unicorn.
Applying warm wax to the skin is a rather nice sensation. What follows is less so. There are a lot of nerve endings in the pubic area, and ripping hair out from the root will hurt. However, the discomfort is only temporary, and the results are totally worth it.
Even though waxing can be painful at first, it gets better over time. Sticking to regular appointments will lead to hair growing back finer and sparser, making it much quicker and easier to remove.
What You Can Expect During Treatment
Uncertainty before your first waxing session is completely normal. There is no need to be shy or embarrassed – your therapist is a professional and has likely seen it all. Also, don’t hesitate to communicate what you want or ask questions if you’re unsure about anything.
After arriving for your appointment, you will be shown to a treatment room and asked to undress from the waist down. You will be given a towel to cover up with.
Your therapist will then thoroughly cleanse the area to be waxed and position you for the most comfortable treatment. Try to relax and follow their guidance. Supporting the skin is important, and they may ask you to assist with this. Warm wax is applied to the area, left to set for a few seconds, and then removed with a quick movement. They will work in small sections to minimise discomfort.
Getting an erection is quite common, believe it or not. It’s a normal bodily function and sometimes just happens involuntarily. Bottom line is: someone will be touching your bits, so it can happen.
What to do Before Your Men’s Brazilian Waxing Session
- Hair should be about 5 to 10mm long – similar to a grain of rice. If it’s longer, it can be trimmed, but check with your therapist, as some prefer to do it in the studio in case clients accidentally trim too short.
- Gently exfoliate the area a day or two before your session. Removing dead skin cells enhances wax adhesion to the hair and helps prevent ingrown hairs.
- Shower beforehand and arrive with clean, dry skin.
- Avoid using heavy lotions and fragrances on the day. It can interfere with the wax and cause unnecessary irritation.
- Do not consume caffeine or alcohol right before the appointment, as this can increase skin sensitivity.
- Wear loose-fitting clothing to minimise friction over the freshly waxed skin.
- Taking a pain reliever like Ibuprofen 30-60 min before can also help to reduce discomfort.
… And Afterwards
- Avoid heat, friction and excessive sweating for at least 24 hours or until all irritation subsides.
- Keep the area clean and dry.
- Continue wearing loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics until skin calms down.
- Soothing, cooling products like Aloe Gel really help calm and heal the skin after waxing.
- Resist the urge to scratch! Itchiness after waxing is quite common, but scratching at it causes more irritation and can lead to infection. Again, Aloe Gel is great for this.
- An exfoliation regimen is important to prevent ingrown hairs and keep skin looking its best. Start using a body scrub 2 to 3 days after waxing, and continue 2 to 3 times per week thereafter. Remember to be gentle – too much scrubbing can have the opposite effect.
- Harley Ingrown Hair Solution works exceptionally well to support skin health and prevent any ingrown hairs from forming. Simply spray it on and let it do its magic.
How Often to Rebook
We recommend a frequency of every 4–6 weeks. Initially, you might need to go more often until the growth cycles of individual hair follicles can synchronise.
Waxing regularly eventually slows down the rate of regrowth and decreases discomfort. Don’t be tempted to shave in between waxing sessions – it will throw the growth cycles out of whack, meaning you have to start all over again.
It’s best to book appointments in advance to work around your schedule. It’s easy to forget, and last-minute bookings aren’t always possible.
In a Nutshell
Men’s Brazilian Waxing is becoming increasingly popular for various reasons. With a little prep work and planning, it can quickly become part of your routine, leaving you more time to enjoy the finer things in life.
