There are 3 types of hair removal wax available: Strip, Hot and Film Wax. Together with Strip wax, Hot Wax has been a salon staple for many years. In contrast, Film Wax is a new generation product that was developed more recently. Harley Waxing uses only the finest ingredients in the formulation of all our products to give you the best possible quality.
What is Hot Wax?
All waxes are heated before application, though hot wax is used at a slightly higher temperature than strip wax. It has a thicker consistency than Strip or Film Wax and does not require waxing strips for removal. Once completely cooled, Hot Wax becomes hard (hence it is also known as Hard Wax).
Most waxes contain similar key ingredients. Harley Hot Waxes consist mainly of the following: Colophonium (Rosin) is a natural pine tree resin that enables a strong grip on hair for efficient removal from the root. Glyceryl Rosinate, derived from pine tree resin, helps wax adhere to the hair while remaining gentle on the skin, supporting efficient removal. Cera Alba, a natural beeswax, lends structure to wax, allows it to grip the hair, and provides a protective film on the skin. Paraffin also provides structure, pliability and a smooth, even application. Lanolin has similar properties to sebum in human skin and is an emollient.
Where can you use it?
Because strip wax is quicker to apply and remove, beauty therapists generally use it for larger areas like arms, legs, backs, etc
Hot Wax, on the other hand, is suitable for smaller and more intimate areas, such as bikini, underarm or Hollywood waxing, also the face. With less pull on the skin, it is a much gentler method of hair removal.
How do you use it?
Break up the block of Hot Wax into chunks by hitting it with a hammer or against a hard surface. Place pieces into a wax heater at a medium heat setting. Be careful not to overheat, as this can cause burns on the skin or the wax to become brittle. When the wax reaches the consistency of honey, test the temperature on the inside of your wrist. Prepare skin by cleaning with Cleanser & Toner and applying a small amount of Pre-waxing Oil, creating a lipid barrier to prevent wax from sticking to skin. Using a spatula, apply wax against the direction of hair growth. As soon as it sets, remove it in the same direction. Immediately apply pressure with your hand to the area to calm nerve endings. The application of After Wax Oil or Aloe Soothing Gel afterwards will soothe and aid in healing the skin.
Which Harley Hot Wax should you choose?
The short answer is: Whichever one you want! Available in Aloe, Chocolate, Rose and Summer Fruits variants, Harley Hot Waxes are formulated with high-quality ingredients and have a low working temperature, making them extra gentle while remaining highly effective. This makes it ideal for use on sensitive areas. When used correctly, it can remove hair as short as 1mm.
All our Hot Waxes contain Titanium Dioxide, which allows the wax to adhere to hair without pulling on the skin when removed. It also lends the wax a creamy texture.
Aloe and Summer Fruits are formulated with Micromica, a mineral with reflective properties to give these waxes their pearly, shimmery appearance and improve elasticity.
